STAP participates in GEF-9 replenishment talks in Bonn

Bonn, 20 January 2026 — The Chair of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel to the Global Environment Facility (STAP), Rosina Bierbaum, and STAP Executive Secretary, Sunday Leonard, participated as observers in the third meeting of the GEF-9 replenishment in Bonn, Germany, alongside donor countries and members of the wider GEF partnership.

Replenishment meetings are key moments for shaping the strategic and programming directions of each four-year funding cycle. As the GEF partnership works toward GEF-9, which is expected to begin in July 2026, STAP continues to contribute its independent scientific and technical advice to help ensure that emerging priorities are grounded in the best available evidence.

Throughout the replenishment process, STAP has supported the GEF with independent, objective scientific and technical advice, sharing targeted analysis and practical recommendations to help ensure that GEF-9 policy and programming decisions are grounded in the best available evidence and innovation.

As GEF-9 takes shape under the principle of “Healthy Planet, Healthy People,” STAP will continue its core mandate of providing objective scientific guidance and reviewing projects across the GEF’s focal areas to help build a strong, results-driven work program through 2030.
